MODUS project

Modus at Agency Research Team (ART) workshop on passenger-centred mobility

EUROCONTROL ART, the Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE) Working Group on Mobility, Institute for sustainable society and innovation (ISSNOVA) and the Horizon 2020 Coordination and support action for mobility in Europe: research and assessment (CAMERA) team organised a workshop on passenger-centred mobility from 14th to June 17th 2021.

The objective of the workshop was to bring together organisations to review progress towards the Flightpath 2050 mobility goals, with a specific view on the passengers’ perspective.

Modus project (Modelling and assessing the role of air transport in an integrated, intermodal transport system) was represented by Annika Paul from Bauhaus Luftfahrt, coordinator of Modus and by Andrew Cook, from University of Westminster and Modus project.

Modus’ objectives are to analyse how the performance of the overall European transport system can be optimised by considering the entire door-to-door journey holistically and considering air transport within an integrated, intermodal approach.

Annika Paul and Andrew Cook exposed the synergies between transport modes and Air Transport and the status of Mobility Research in Europe capturing multimodal performance.

They shared some Modus research results on:

The insights presented by Annika Paul were the result of literature research, surveys and workshop organized at the beginning of 2021 with the participation of air and rail experts.

Andrew Cook outlined choices and trade-offs in regard to key performance indicators, which are currently being developed within the project:

The Modus project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 SESAR research and innovation programme on the topic SESAR-ER4-10-2019 ATM Role in Intermodal Transport under grant agreement no. 891166. It started in June 2020 and will run until November 2022.
