As the European Modus project is drawing to a close, the consortium participated in three conferences across Europe: in Slovakia, Portugal and the Netherlands.

Chantal Roucolle, from ENAC, attended the INAIR international air transport conference in Bratislava. INAIR provides a forum for industry and academia to meet and exchange ideas and best practices regarding common challenges. On 10 November, she presented the paper: “Substitution path between air and rail in Europe: a measure of demand drivers”, which identified the determinants of passengers’ choice of transportation and assessed the substitution paths between air and rail on French, German and Spanish markets.

From 14 to 17 November, Annika Paul and Ulrike Schmalz, from Bauhaus Luftfahrt, participated in the TRA (Transport Research Arena) conference in Lisbon, which is one of the most important research congresses in Europe with over 2000 participants and more than 600 speakers. They presented the paper: ‘’Future multimodal mobility scenarios’’ and the invite-only session with other SESAR ER4 multimodal projects: “Data sharing as an enabler of multimodality”.

Vanessa Perez, from UIC, attended the unique World Passenger Festival in Amsterdam, which attracted more than 250 speakers from the world’s largest public transport operators, along with their partners, to discuss the transformative era of mobility. She gave a presentation on: “Modus scenarios for the future of multimodal transport: Horizon 2040”, presenting the multiple challenges multimodality will have to face, including:

  • Enabling a seamless journey for passengers, with multiple providers and information;
  • Achieving environmental goals and facilitating a sustainable transport system;
  • Identifying and developing new business models to enable multimodal transport;
  • Addressing the long-term implications resulting from Covid-19;
  • Rethinking the use of current infrastructure and future challenges.
